Window Keeper: Civic Workshops

Exploring Democracy, History, and Civic Reflection

The Bellefonte Art Museum is proud to launch Window Keeper: Civic Workshops, a community-centered initiative developed by PA Humanities that invites participants to reflect on the founding ideals of the United States through conversation, creative writing, and critical inquiry. 

Inspired by The Window Keeper, a commissioned poem by Philadelphia Poet Laureate Yolanda Wisher, the workshop, led by Penn State Liberal Arts Professor of English, Julia Spicher Kasdorf, will encourage participants to explore themes of freedom, justice, representation, civic responsibility, and the evolving meaning of democracy in America.

Through discussion, close reading, and creative writing, community members will engage with both the historical context of the Declaration of Independence and contemporary perspectives on civic life as the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration.

Workshop Date: September 17th 

Workshop Time: 6-8 pm

Workshop is FREE and limited to 12 participants

Workshops are fee to adults, and do not require previous experience in creative writing. Participants will have opportunities to share reflections, create original writing, and engage in thoughtful community dialogue. Kasdorf will be available to work with participants after the workshop if they wish to submit their pieces of writing in a state-wide publication.
