Scary Babies
by Stacie Bird
I don’t remember being particularly crazy about baby dolls growing up, but I do remember the few I had. My Mother found them in the attic a couple of years ago and asked me if I wanted them. I didn’t. Until I saw them. Their faces with their permanently perky smiles are even creepier with moldy eyes!
I’ve been collecting the pieces and parts for this installation for about a year and having a GREAT time doing it! The opportunity to have an extended show in the 24/7 gallery allowed me room to expand on the 2 dimensional photographs I’m known for, and give the babies some context and physical space to play.
When people find out I take pictures of scary baby dolls, they want to share. So although all of these aren’t mine, the newcomers fit right in.
I had forgotten that a couple of them “talk”, so if you hear any strange noises, particularly at night…….
Thanks to Nancy, Mary, Jennifer, Randy, Cathy, Cyndi and Vicki. And most of all, thanks to Jim for his carpentry skills and……..patience.
