From Above: A New Perspective

by Jim Valent

This exhibition presents a collection of drone photography that invites viewers to see the familiar in unexpected ways. Captured from the skies above State College, Pennsylvania and beyond, these images explore agriculture, landscapes, travel, and the natural textures through a distinctly aerial lens. From the geometry of farmland and the quiet rhythms of rural life to sweeping vistas and abstract patterns found in nature, each photograph reveals how scale, shape, and context transform when viewed from above. The result is a visual journey that balances documentation with abstraction, precision with wonder.

Drone photography offers a perspective that is both intimate and expansive. Roads become lines, fields become mosaics, forests turn into living textures, and towns reveal their hidden order. By lifting the camera into the air, these works challenge our ground-level assumptions and encourage a pause—to look closer, think differently, and rediscover places we thought we knew.

This show is an invitation to step back, rise above, and experience the world from a uniquely different vantage point—one where everyday environments become art, and perspective itself becomes the subject.
