Sound and Vision: The Art of Music

Presented by the Bellefonte Art Museum in collaboration with Fez Records

Sound and Vision: The Art of Music examines the enduring relationship between music and visual expression through the evolution of album cover design. From hand-painted illustrations to contemporary digital compositions, from photography to minimalist expression, the exhibition traces how visual artists and musicians have collaborated to create images that both reflect and shape the experience of music.

Drawing from a selection of iconic and lesser-known album covers, the exhibition considers the album sleeve as an artistic form—one that transforms auditory experience into visual language. These works reveal how design choices in color, typography, and composition communicate the tone, emotion, and identity of the music they represent.

Through this exploration, Sound and Vision invites visitors to reflect on how the art of the album cover extends beyond its functional purpose, emerging as a cultural artifact that continues to define eras, inspire creativity, and connect communities through shared sound and vision.
