Abstract Unstretched
The show " Abstract Unstretched" is a study of scale, movement, color, and form interacting with viewer.
These piece are intended to hang freeform and as the viewer visually interacts with them to hopefully feel the embrace of the size, form, movement and color! Being displayed through hanging in a space directly from the ceiling allows them to sway when the moment arrives, but also seeing the shapes and forms movement.
I original painted these by "chasing" my own figure across the canvas trying to capture the figures movement. I would dance in the studio and cast a strong light behind me to create dynamic shadows and shapes. These are large scale acrylic pieces that are intended to have viewer fill engulfed in color and scale of the pieces. I have fond memories of the creation process. The process brought my vision to life through physical movement and strong colors.
I believe this opportunity to show these works in a 24/7 display will bring in new art enthusiasts and invigorating my message of art being interactive even on a 2 dimensional level. I ask you to look for the figures dancing across the canvases. I also want you to challenge yourself with your relationship with the art work. In this relationship, one can not ignore the level of dynamic colors weaving an abstract experience with viewer.
